Prof William Mobley
Centre Director, Greater China Centre for Private Equity, University of Macau

William Mobley is the Adjunct Chair Professor of Management in the Faculty of Business Administration, and the Co-Director of Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management (APAEM), University of Macau.

An academic with a wealth of experience in business management, Mobley served as the president of Texas A&M University from 1988 to 1993 and as the managing director of Global Research Consortium from 1995 to 2002. Having held several positions in Asian business schools such as the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and National Taiwan University (NTU) throughout his career, Mobley has a thorough understanding of the business environment in Asia.

Yong Kwek Ping is the CEO of Inventis Investment Holdings, the largest foreign private equity growth fund in China with over USD 6.2 billion of capital under management spread across three different funds: the Greater China-focused fund, a global investment fund and a Korean country specific fund.

Kwek Ping started his first USD private equity China-focused growth fund in 2001 and has since made more than forty investments in different cities in China across various industries, including manufacturing, mining, energy, food and beverage, and the retail sector. With over 15 years of private equity experience, Kwek Ping has also planned and executed many successful exits through trade sales and pre-IPO transactions.

Kwek Ping is a TED speaker and the author of two acclaimed books on China, Private Equity in China: Challenges and Opportunities (Wiley 2012) and Due Diligence in China: Beyond the Checklists (Wiley 2013).

With a stellar investment track record recognized by the private equity industry, Kwek Ping is frequently invited to speak at many international conferences and summits. Kwek Ping teaches private equity courses at the Singapore Management University, Imperial College Business School and the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management.

He is a Senior Fellow of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA and an Adjunct Scholar, Faculty of Business Administration, University of Macau. He also sits on the Board of Advisors, the Asia Pacific Academy of Economics and Management (APAEM), University of Macau, China and is the Centre Director of the Greater China Centre for Private Equity (GCCPE), University of Macau, China.

Mr Michel Brekelmans
Partner, Co-Head of L.E.K. China
L.E.K Consulting

Michel Brekelmans is a Partner at L.E.K. Consulting and co-head of L.E.K.’s China practice based in Shanghai. He has 20 years of experience in strategy consulting with L.E.K., mostly in Asia. Michel is a member if L.E.K.’s Regional Management Committee which overseas operations of 10 offices across the Asia Pacific region.

Michel specializes in a number of sectors including Industrial Products and Services, Healthcare & Life Sciences. He advises corporate clients and financial investors in these sectors on complex strategic and commercial issues with a focus on M&A transactions, strategic and business planning, organizational development and performance improvement.

Prior to moving to China 10 years ago, Michel headed L.E.K’s Singapore office, and before that he was based in L.E.K.’s London and Los Angeles offices.

Michel received a Master of Science in Business Administration from the Erasmus University Rotterdam and also completed the International Management Program at Stern School of Business (New York University).

Mr Edan Lee
Managing Director, Olympus Capital Asia

Edan Lee is a Managing Director for Olympus Capital Asia. Prior to joining Olympus in 1998, Mr. Lee served as Project Director for The AES Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, where he developed and financed significant foreign joint ventures in China. Previously, he was a management consultant with McKinsey & Co. in the US and in Australia.

Mr. Lee holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and BS and BA degrees from Rice University.

Mr Chris Lerner
Partner, Eaton Partners

Chris Lerner leads the origination and execution of alternative funds for Eaton in Asia. He has over 15 years of investment banking and direct investment experience with over $10 billion in completed transactions. Prior to joining Eaton Partners, he was a Managing Partner for Mercer Street Capital, an independent strategic advisory and investment firm. Chris began his career with Citigroup and its predecessor firm, Salomon Smith Barney. He was the firm’s first investment banking expatriate based in Mainland China and helped established the Asia Pacific Financial Institutions Group. Later, he worked on the corporate buy-side in strategic planning and business development, including for The Timberland Company where he completed the first four acquisitions in that company’s history.

Chris received an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA from Tufts University. He also earned a Certificate in Mandarin Chinese from the College of Foreign Languages in Beijing. He holds Series 7, 63, 24 and 79 licenses with FINRA and is also licensed with the SFC in Hong Kong.

Mr John Ng
Managing Director, SMC
Partner, SMC Capital China

Mr Ng is a Managing Director of Simon Murray & Company (SMC) and a Partner of SMC Capital China. His work experience covers corporate finance and business management. He began his career in the financial advisory team of PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York, and then investment banking at Lehman Brothers. He later became a senior corporate finance and strategic planning executive of Hutchison Port Holdings, the world’s largest container port operator and a key division of Hutchison Whampoa. He joined SMC in 2006 and oversees the firm’s businesses over private equity and hedge funds.

Mr Ng received his BS Business Administration and Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Program for Leadership Development. Mr. Ng is a CFA charter-holder and a CPA.

Mr Chris Tay
Chief Executive Officer, Cloud 9 Restaurant

Mr Chris Tay is the Chief Executive Officer of the restaurant brand Cloud 9, which is owned by YPX Cayman Holdings. Mr Tay is responsible for overseeing all operations and company management. Mr. Tay has held a variety of entrepreneurial and corporate leadership roles across China and Southeast Asia. He has a proven track record of identifying new opportunities and creating and growing industry leading companies. Before founding YPX, Mr Tay was GM of Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group’s soft-serve ice cream business unit. He was previously with Ting Hsin International, and held the role of VP for operations and training. Prior to this he was Deputy GM at Hop Hing Holdings Limited. He was a serial entrepreneur before working as the Asia Pacific Head for Wincor Nixdorf and NCR. Chris started his entrepreneurial career in 1994, creating a chain restaurant brand which was successfully sold to an international restaurant chain. After his time in the food and beverage industry Mr Tay went on to start two IT companies, both of these companies were acquired.

Mr Kelvin Fu
Senior Executive, Inventis Investment Holdings

Kelvin is the Senior Executive at Special Projects, CEO's Office at Inventis Investment Holdings. Inventis is one of the largest private equity funds based in Shanghai with about US$6.2 billion of capital under management providing growth capital to companies with solid track records across diversified industries. Kelvin is responsible for the deal sourcing, due diligence investment evaluation, structuring and portfolio management. He has worked on numerous deals spanning across consumer related sectors, energy, and healthcare in different geographic regions such as North Asia, Southeast Asia and Europe.

He has a Masters of Applied Finance from the Macquarie University in Australia and studied Political Science at the National University of Singapore and Technopreneurship in Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

Kelvin is also the Editor of Private Equity in China ( where he spends his time discussing about trends and opportunities in the private equity industry in China and due diligence topics.

Mr Steve Wang
Managing Director and Co-Founder, Pine Field Capital

Steve Wang is Managing Director and Co-Founder of Pine Field Capital. Mr. Wang has more than 10 years of experience in investing in venture capital, growth stage private equity, structured loan and leading IPO/M&A transactions in the Greater China Region. Before PFCP, Mr. Wang was an investment officer at Spinnaker Capital. He has also been working as an investment banker at UBS Investment Bank in Asia, having led more than US$1 billion cross border M&A and US/HK IPO transactions for Chinese companies. Steve started his career at GE Healthcare division in the USA.

Mr. Wang has an MBA degree (Motorola Scholar) from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University; MSE degree from Johns Hopkins University; and B.E. degree (Honors) from Zhejiang University, China. He is also a Harvard Business School Alum, having completed Program for Leadership Development Executive Program at HBS. Steve is the board member of Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association.

Mr Jim Tsao
Partner, Unitas Capital

Jim Tsao is a Partner of Unitas Capital based in Shanghai, in charge of Unitas's activities in the greater China area. Mr. Tsao involved in many of the fund's investment portfolio companies, including serving on the boards of ZNV, Babela Foods, Hyva and Air International. Prior to joining the firm in 2005, Mr. Tsao was the Group Managing Director of Lam Soon H.K. Group, one of the largest listed food products company in Hong Kong. Previously, Mr. Tsao was Managing Director for Asia of Lion Nathan Limited. Mr. Tsao holds a B.A. in Economics from National Taiwan University and an M.B.A. in Finance and Marketing from the University of Chicago.

Mr David Yang
Managing Director and Co-Head of China, Essex Woodlands

David Yang co-heads Essex Woodlands’ investment practice in China. Founded in 1985, Essex Woodlands is one of the largest healthcare-focused private equity investors globally, investing in rapidly growing pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostics, healthcare service and IT companies. David has over 12 years of experience in healthcare investing in China and the US, and joined Essex Woodlands in 2012 to help build the firm's China business. Prior to joining Essex Woodlands, David was a key member of Warburg Pincus’ China healthcare investment team and was closely involved with investments including Lepu Medical (ChiNext listed), CITIC Pharmaceutical (sold to Shanghai Pharmaceutical), PW Medtech (HKSE listed), Wuxi Pharmatech (NYSE listed) and Harbin Pharmaceutical (Shanghai listed). Previously he worked in research at Fidelity Management and Research in the US focusing on the healthcare service and pharmaceutical sectors and at Morgan Stanley as an investment banker.

David currently serves on the Board of Yantai Beacon Medical Technology and previously served on the Board of Lepu Medical. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from MIT and a MBA from Columbia Business School.

Ms Jenny Yang
Associate Director, Control Risks

Jenny Yang is an Associate Director in Control Risks’ Corporate Enquiries practice in Shanghai. She is mainly engaged in pre-transaction due diligence projects, pre-employment screening, anti-corruption enquiries and business intelligence gathering.

Prior to joining Control Risks in September 2006, Jenny worked with a French trading consulting company based in Shanghai. Her primary responsibilities included assisting French companies sourcing Chinese industrial products as well as developing business in China.

Jenny holds a master’s degree in English linguistics and literature from Fujian Normal University. She is fluent in Mandarin and English, and speaks basic French.

Dr. Vladimir Malenko
Investment Director, Youxian Investments

Dr. Malenko is the Investment Director for Youxian Investments (HK), the only M&A and PE advisement company that joins investors and companies in China and ASEAN countries with their counterparts in Russia, Kazakhstan and Eastern Europe. He was formerly International Investment Director for a private investment fund owned by a member of Global Forbes-100. He is the author of Moscow, London…Dubai, the IPO guide (Kommersant Publishing 2006). Dr. Malenko holds MD, JD and MBA degrees.

Mr James Cen Bonsor
Director, Fosun Capital Group

James is a Director at Fosun Capital Group based in Shanghai where he primarily is responsible for fund and project capital raising, investor relations, as well as strategic partnerships. Prior to joining Fosun, James was an Associate Director at Jade Invest in Shanghai, an independent China dedicated fund of private equity funds. Previously he has also worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in their corporate finance/ transactions services practice in Shanghai and London. He holds an MA in mathematics from the University of Cambridge.

Mr Anthony Chan
Chief Executive Officer, Isola Capital

Anthony is Chief Executive Officer, shareholder and a member of the Board of Isola Capital Group, a Director of Isola Capital Limited, a Director of Isola Capital Asset Management Limited and a member of the Advisory and Investment Committee.

Anthony was previously the Head of Asia, Managing Director and member of the Investment Committee of a global alternative investment fund manager. He has broad investment experience across the Asia Pacific region, in the natural resources, renewable energy, industrial, consumer, technology and biotechnology sectors.

Prior to that role, Anthony had an extensive career in investment banking with Credit Suisse, Citigroup and Lehman Brothers Asia where he completed over US$10 billion of transactions involving debt and equity capital raisings, equity-linked issuances, cross-border M&A transactions, private equity exits, principal investments, asset divestitures and corporate restructurings.

Anthony attained a Bachelors of Commerce (Finance and Economics) from The University of Sydney and Bachelors of Laws (Honours) from The University of Sydney Law School. He is also a graduate of The College of Law (Sydney) and was admitted to the High Court of Australia and Supreme Court of NSW. Anthony is a graduate from the Financial Engineering Program of Stanford University and attended the Stanford Executive Institute.

Mr Sun Dayi
Managing Director, Jade Invest

Mr Sun is an investment committee member of Jade Invest. He is involved in investment activities with a particular focus on investment strategy, asset allocation, performance evaluation, and fund manager screening. Jade Invest created the new investment asset class of China-focused PE fund portfolio for global investors in 2006. Currently Jade Invest manages two USD fund-of-funds and advises leading institutional LPs in China on RMB PE fund selection and due diligence.

Before joining Jade Invest, Dayi was a Principal at Horsley Bridge Partners in San Francisco; Founder of AsiaBridge Partners focusing on Asia PE fund investment and advising SVB Capital on global fund-of-funds initiative; and worked at Sybase in California developing corporate strategy, conducting acquisitions and managing corporate venture portfolio across Asia. Dayi holds MBA from Stanford University and BA in Economics from Nankai University.

Mr Duncan Kuo
Director of Corporate Strategy, Tencent

Duncan is a Director of Corporate Strategy for the Finance Department of Tencent, one of world’s largest Internet companies. His works at Tencent include advising senior leaderships on a broad range of management topics by analyzing financial data and business intelligence of Tencent and the Internet industry.

Prior to Tencent, he worked for The Boston Consulting Group as a strategy/business consultant. He also worked for AsusTek, a globally leading IT manufacturer, as a Country Manager/Business Development Manager across Europe, Southeast Asia and Greater China.

Duncan obtained a MBA from International Institution for Management Development (IMD), Switzerland and a Bachelor in Economics in National Cheng-chi University, Taiwan.

Mr Cheng Yeren
Partner, Lunar Capital

YR Cheng is a Partner at Lunar Capital and co-leads the Operations and Portfolio Management team. YR has over 25 years of experience in consumer-related industries leading the China operations of large multinational corporations. Prior to joining Lunar, Cheng served as President of Greater China for Anheuser-Busch InBev, based in Shanghai, where he worked for over fifteen years. He also served as CEO of a leading education group focused on higher education in China. YR began his career with Dow Chemical and Philip Morris after graduating from the National Taiwan University (BA) and University of Minnesota (MBA).

Mr Aaron Yuan
Managing Director, Hehang Capital Holdings

Mr Aaron Yuan is the Managing Director of Hehang Capital Holdings, which is a leading financial services and specialist investment banking firm based in Beijing. He leads the distressed investment and M&A advisory divisions. Mr Yuan is senior advisor to several large Chinese listed companies and global private equity funds. He is also a specialist in state-owned-enterprises M&A and has completed transactions totaling RMB 60 billion. Hehang Capital Holdings holds the license to trade state-owned assets and various financial licenses to provide structured financing to enterprises. Prior to joining Hehang, Mr Yuan was with Harmony Capital Partners, a private equity fund and Ernst & Young Advisory based in Singapore.

Mr Yuan is a CPA and holds a BBA (Accountancy) from National University of Singapore. He was a lead researcher for the book “Private Equity in China: Challenges and Opportunities” (Wiley 2012).

Mr Jonathan Zhou
Director and Head of China, Bridgepoint

Jonathan joined Bridgepoint in 2011 and leads the Shanghai Portfolio Office.

He worked for Coca-Cola for ten years where he was a Director of Strategy and Planning for the South Pacific Business Unit and prior to that he was executive assistant to Coca-Cola's President of Greater China in Shanghai. Before that, he was a management and strategic consultant with a boutique strategic consultancy for five years based in Shanghai.

Jonathan is a Certified Accountant (CPA) and holds an MBA and BA in Economics from Fudan University. He is also fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.
